The Corsair 40k Rules

So there is a lot of buzz going around as of late regarding Aeldari units, new models and new rules. I've already covered what the Avatar is going to be able to do on the battlefield and if you haven't read that article then click here

New Eldar Corsairs for Warhammer 40k

The Corsairs are also exciting new units that will be getting New Rules in the upcoming Asuryani Codex. Corsairs aren't exactly a new concept for the Eldar in Warhammer 40k, they have been a forge world army previously, but would be cool to actually have some Pirate Aeldari running up and down the battlefield.

Stats

So what are the stat lines in 40k for these new figures?

Surprisingly they are getting TWO codex entries in the upcoming book. A Troops choice called Corsair Voidreavers and an Elites choice called Corsair Voidscarred. Both will have different options so I can see these box sets selling out fast with eBay scalpers being very highly active when these go on pre-order.

Corsair Voidreavers

So the basic troops choice. Lets take a look at their stats

M7" WS3+ BS3+ S3 T3 W1 A2 Ld7 Sv4+

So not massively overpowered. I am starting to notice a trend with 2 attacks on a lot of models, wonder if the games CC phase is suffering a little. Also 10pts each.

They have access to either Power Sword and Shuriken Pistol or something I've not seen before, the Shuriken Rifle.

RANGE 24" TYPE: Rapid Fire S4 AP-1 D1 ABILITES: Shurken

So a rapid-fire Shuriken weapon, still short-ranged (for this edition) but nice to see its a little different than the usual Eldar weapons.

The Felarch (Sargeant) can take a Mistshield (4+ invun) and a Neuro Disruptor (12" S6 AP-3 D1 Pistol 1, 1MW on non vehicle) for about 5pts each.

1 in 5 can also have access to the following

Corsair Blaster (10pts)

RANGE 18" TYPE: Assault 1 S8 AP-4 D d6

Corsair Shredder (5pts)

RANGE 18" TYPE: Assault d6 S6 AP-1 D1

Both weapons have some good strength to them and can pack a bit of a punch alongside some other weapons you can take for the squad.

1 in 10 can have a bigger weapon. 1 of which is the Shuriken cannon, the other is a Wraithcannon.

Yes, you heard that correctly, a Wraithcannon. This unit can carry a Wraithcannon. Let's hope this is also an option for standard Guardian squads.

Wraithcannon (15pts)

RANGE 18" TYPE: Assault 1 S10 AP-4 D d3+3

That's a lot of damage for 15pts. Don't forget about the Battle Focus rule which means these guys will be able to move forward and then back out of sight.

Finally they have the following special rule

Reavers of the Void

Unmodified hit rolls of 6 auto wound, they also count as a wound roll of 6.

Corsair Voidscarred

Not bad for 10pts a modal. I'll be fielding those if I can for sure. Not lets take a look at the Elites stat line.

M7" WS3+ BS3+ S3 T3 W1 A3 Ld7 Sv4+

Extra attack compared to the troops choice, they can also take 0-1 of each of the following specialists (see below). They come in at 12pts per model.

They have the same weapon options as their troop counterpart plus:

1 in 10 can have a Ranger long Rifle (5pts)

1 in 10 can have a fusion pistol instead of a power sword (10pts)

1 in 10 can take a Faolchu (unit ignores cover)

Specialists

They also get access to the following

  • Shade Runner (18pts): WS2+ A4. Attacks are -3ap and 1 damage, on the charge it can cause 1MW on a 2-5 or 3MW on a 6.

  • Soul Reaver (17pts): First failed save each turn becomes Dam0

  • Way Seeker (25pts): Knows one power from Fate or Fortune, has a witch staff with wounds on 2+ Ap-1 and Damage D3.

They also have the access to the following special rule

Reavers of the Void

Unmodified hit rolls of 6 auto wound, they also count as a wound roll of 6.

So there you go folks. Nice and powerful units on their way to the Eldar armies of the 41st Millenium. Still a little like glass cannons, but that's pretty much what the Aeldari should be.
